Dr. Temple Grandin is a professor at Colorado State University and was diagnosed with autism in 1950. She is an author, autism advocate, and her story was depicted in the 2010 HBO movie, “Temple Grandin,” starring Claire Daines. Dr. Grandin has overcome enormous challenges during her life, and was once quoted as saying that if she could snap her fingers and become non-autistic, she would not do it because autism “is part of who I am.”
Echolalia is defined as the immediate and involuntary repetition of words or phrases just spoken by others, which is often one of the symptoms of autism. This video demonstrates an example of a three year old child with autism exhibiting classic echolalia. In addition to the repetitive speech, the child is unresponsive when a question is posed to him. The parent who uploaded this video has confirmed an autism diagnosis.

This video was taken at a Target store by the boy’s mother when he was seven years old. According to his mom, this repetitive behavior was going on for 15 minutes prior to being filmed. These types of repetitive activities are very typical for children with autism spectrum disorders.
