autistic 14 yr old out of control
      #642 - 01/28/08 03:59 PM

i am looking for some advise please. i have a 14 yr old daughter with autism. her behaviors are completely out of control & the meds don't seem to be helping (not for quite a while)(she has only been on meds since august of 2007). we used herbal remedies before that until the herbals stopped working. this morning i asked her to get dressed for school, i played her game of throwing her close on the floor that she sometimes goes through. it was getting late & her bus was to arrive in 25 mins so i asked her to get dressed again. that is when all broke loose, she attacked me like if she were a wild animal. needless to say she did not go to school today & i am all bruised & swelled up to boot. she backed off & was ok until the bus came inspite o me calling & canceling it which started all of it over again, but this time she did calm down faster. i am taking her to see a new doctor who someone reffered me to that has delt with autistic children in the past to hopefully get a grip on her meds & her behaviors. hopefully he will be able to help her & us with her behaviors. i'm sure some of the problem is that she has a hormonal imbalance along with the autism since she has not had her cycle in over a yr & a doctor in the the main clinic that diagnosed her when she was 3 yrs old told us that there was deffinatley a imblance but as of last fall they did not want to do anything about it & for us to let it regulate itself. i think that may be part of the explosiveness.

The best remedy I can suggest you is to buy her magnetic jewelry. Magnets do work with autism also they look fashionable. These can be found at nikken.com. or email me for more information on how to buy. my email is : aysolau@yahoo.com.
good luck

I completely feel your pain. My son has Asbergers and is also age 14. Ever since he turned 13 his meds stopped working. I think this is because he started puberty. These are the Meds my son has taken: Effexor, zoloft, welbutrin, abilify, resperdahl, trileptal, geodon, hadol & bupropion. Resperdahl caused weight gain. He took this med the longest in conjunction with welbutrin. My son is 5"10 and weighs 276! He will fly into rages and attack me. Also my son is a red head and I've been told that red heads react differently to meds and anesthesia. Any Hoo.. I would recommend that you find a good Psychologist and try different meds until you hit the right combination. I think it's easier to do this during summer break when they are not at school. Also you might want to try a "big sister" or mentor that she can see on a regular basis. This might help her confidence and depression. Remember when we were teenagers??? I was fat and pimply and hated my periods! ha ha I had to liven up the moment. Seriously I wish you the best and pray for you and your family. You are not alone.
God Bless you,
-Sadie
