I have been teaching in a self contained class for about 6 years. I have seen many different severities of Autism. I have also seen many parents still in denial 13 years later. The worst thing about being in denial is that the child doesn't get the early intervention they need. If you can do anything for your child make sure they keep working on the basics. Letters, number, shapes, colors, reading. This will prepare them and give them a better chance to stay with their peers. I have seen first hand what happens when a child doesn't have a foundation. I have developed a series of workbooks focused towards the Autistic child. It uses many of the ABA theories and moves at a pace appropriate for Autistic children. Go to my web site and read about the books. I hope you don't have to deal with Autism come September but if you do early intervention is very important. www.room52publications.com
