Hi everyone~ new here but not to autism
      07/05/09 05:27 PM

Hi I will give a little background I am a mother of 3, my daughter who will be 18 next month (ADHD), a 14 year old son(sever bi-polar), and a 13 year old son with moderate autism. I am also the grandmother of a 3 year old grandson, and a 2 year old granddaughter. Although my grandson displayed some odd behaviors we had him tested and they are not ready to label him with anything. The one I am writing about is my granddaughter. She just turned 2 today and has some very concerning behaviors, and Iím hoping that I can get some advice from the real experts before we have her appts. with the developmental pediatrician (in Oct.) and the psychologist (the end of this month).
These are some of the behaviors that she does that puzzle all of us:
- She has no fear of anything at all
- She screams all the time, sometimes for no reason at all
- She donít like to use a plate she will just dump her food on her high chair to eat it and throw the plate on the floor
- She is in constant movement
- She head butts people or animals and thinks itís funny
- She bangs her head on the wall when she is upset
- She bites and pinches when happy and/or excited
- About 3-4 times a week we have an episode where she smears her feces all over her crib and body including her in her mouth
- She has also stuck her finger in her diaper with poop in it and shoved it into her brothers eye, mouth, nose, and ear.
- She is very what I call OCD about how her food is placed in front of her and the way she eats it.
- She very rarely plays with toys
- She still puts everything in her mouth, and eats many inedible objects like markers, crayons, lead from a pencil, erasers, wood, toys
- She smells everything

She has been evaluated by Birth-3 and did not qualify for services even though they said that could see that she was a lot of work and can see where our concerns are coming from. She talks a lot but not a lot of it is really clear unless it is something to get what she wants or needs. She is very loving and likes hugs and kisses, her eye contact is Ok most of the time.

Sorry if I missed anything and I would be happy to answer any questions you might have still, I know that girls are somewhat different from boys on the spectrum and I donít want to miss anything.

Thanks so much,
Nicole
